Stellar Home Wine Cellar Design for an Old Office Space

When you work with a master builder, you can expect amazing results. In one of our projects, Custom Wine Cellars worked with Wine Cellar Specialists in transforming an office space into a wine cellar and tasting room. We are proud of the finished product!

The owners of the home seldom used the office space. They thought of utilizing it to provide their wine collection a safe and elegant place to age. They also wanted to have a wine tasting room and bar area where they could sip their favorite wine with friends.

The office space used to have built-in wooden shelves and cabinets, yellow-green walls, a double door, large windows painted with beige, and a ceiling fan with light.

Custom Home Wine Cellar Design Created by Experts in Los Angeles

Modular wine racks are available for wine collectors who are on a budget. However, if you want your wine room to be unique and fit the shape of your space perfectly, you must be willing to spend a bit more on customization options.

Customizing your racking allows you to incorporate your own style and add features that will make your wine cellar more attractive and functional.

We incorporated custom features into the design of this wine room. Making a careful assessment of the client’s needs allowed us to determine the following: ideal style and material of the wine racks, type, and brand of cooling unit, lighting system, and flooring. We took into consideration the following factors:

  • Size, location, and shape of the wine room
  • Number of bottles intended to be stored in the cellar
  • Budget
  • Aesthetic goals of the client
  • Existing décor of the owner’s home

The walls in the wine cellar were applied with semi-gloss latex paint (Arresting Auburn color).

3-Dimensional Drawings

After the assessment stage, Custom Wine Cellars Los Angeles and Wine Cellar Specialists created CAD images to give the owners a better visualization of their home wine cellar. The design package consists of various elevations (A, B, and C). The images show the racking styles and bottle capacities of the wine rack on each wall.

Side Walls and Curved Corners

Elevation A refers to the sidewalls where you can see individual wine racks at the top section and solid diamond bins at the bottom. A high reveal display row runs the middle section of the entire racking. We installed a light valance above the display row where the LED lighting systems would be installed.

Elevation B consists of corner wine racks with a true radius curve to help create a smooth transition from one wall to another.

Back Wall

The back wall is the focal point of this wine cellar. We included a solid arch at the center of the racking and individual wine racks on both sides. We placed a 3-level horizontal wine rack above the solid arch to provide storage space for the client’s magnum bottles.

The middle section of the back wall is a long tabletop, which was made from the inside parts of the reclaimed wine barrels. The Infusion style tabletop shows a beautiful reddish tone.

The tabletop provides a space for decanting and serving wine. We included double deep X bins and six rolling case openings at the bottom section of the back wall. The rolling style case slots allow for easy access to the cases placed at the back part.

Wine Tasting Room and Bar Area

The owners of this beautiful home wine cellar, designed by Custom Wine Cellars Los Angeles and Wine Cellar Specialists, love to entertain friends and host tasting parties. Adding a wine tasting room and a bar area adjacent to the wine cellar was a smart idea. As you enter the door to the tasting room, you will see the home bar furniture on the back wall. The handles and knobs were supplied by Wine Cellar Specialists.

For the walls and ceiling, we used a Stonecoat material, which is made from crushed limestone. The Nico style chandelier at the center of the wine tasting room creates a luxurious feel.

After removing and repainting the old shutters, we placed them back to their original place. The wine barrel flooring was made from the barrelheads of reclaimed wine barrels (Cooperage style).

Top Section

The top section consists of solid cabinets intended for storing more wines and accessories. Below these cabinets are open shelves on the left and right side. The owners can store their decanters and other accouterments in the two topmost levels. The bottom level consists of stemware racks for storing glasses upside down.

At the center, we added a lighted cabinet with double glass doors. This area was intended for highlighting some of the client’s favorite bottles.

The center has double glass doors and a built-in refrigerator (3036 model manufactured by Uline). We also added two drawers above this section and a tabletop made from the inner parts of used wine barrels.

Custom Wine Cellars Los Angeles and Wine Cellar Specialists chose All Heart Redwood for this home wine cellar and tasting room. Stained or unstained, this type of wood exudes beauty. It is also durable and highly resistant to mold and warping.

It has natural preservatives that enable it to withstand high levels of humidity. All Heart Redwood wine racks are reddish, adding a rustic appeal to the wine room.

We used Knotty Alder for the home bar. This wood species has attractive knots and burls. It has yellowish to reddish tones. We applied the home bar furniture with a Chappo stain and lacquer.

Custom Wine Cellar Doors

We always want every wine cellar to have a beautiful and safe entryway. It is the first thing that guests see before entering your wine room and reflects your personality.

For the entrance to the wine tasting room, we used a double wrought iron gate with an eyebrow arch, matched it with a Victorian style handle set and lock. The grapevine design adds character to the space.

The wine cellar door, which is 36 x 96-inch in size, was framed in Knotty Alder. The glass panels are dual paned. We equipped the door with sealing components to help the wine cooling system achieve the optimum storage conditions.
